Angry Beards is a Czech beard care brand with a strong identity — illustrated style, black as primary colour, bearded character at the centre of communication. When a brand holds its visuals this tightly, the socks have to fit exactly. No compromises in colour, no simplification of the mascot.
Brief
Promotional socks for events, influencer giveaways and loyalty packages. Three requirements:
- Brand mascot in full detail — bearded character across the full surface of the sock, illustrated style without losing detail.
- Black as brand colour — Angry Beards lives in black. Lifestyle merch must be dark, contrasting, legible.
- Event budget — per-unit price low enough to give 200 away at a trade show, not just 10 to VIPs.
What we did
Sublimation print on black polyester. Bearded character, brand typography, supporting motifs (bottles, illustrated brand elements) across the full surface. White accent on the cuff for contrast — so the sock doesn't look like a single solid black mass.
Sock construction:
- Polyester 90 % (black dye and sublimation on synthetic last for years)
- Elastane 10 % — compression cuff, lifestyle cut
- Length: standard crew (over the ankle)
- Print: sublimation, full coverage including heel and toe
Why not classic cotton
Brand merch has a specific requirement — colours must pop, design must survive a season. Cotton is comfortable to wear, but print on cotton fades with washing, black dye bleeds pigment into the white parts, illustration loses sharpness. After half a year the customer has faded merch that represents the brand badly.
Black polyester with sublimation holds colour — even after 50 washes the print stays sharp. For a brand whose customers recognise it by visual identity, that's critical. The cheaper alternative (direct print on cotton) would save 30 % per pair, and the brand merch would end up in the bin after one season.
Brand colours and detail
Angry Beards sends a brand manual with exact hex values. Colours in sublimation print must match — not "similar orange", but exact Angry Beards orange. This is where machine calibration matters: test print on a sample, comparison with reference, colour profile adjustment, final print.
For illustrated style, sharp detail matters. The mascot's beard has fine lines — sublimation at 1200 dpi handles it; cheaper printers at 600 dpi would turn those lines into pixelated noise. Investment in machine quality pays off in the result.
Process
- Day 1–2 — brand assets from the client (vector mascot, brand manual with colours). Layout discussion.
- Day 3–5 — mockup on the sock template, brand art director approval, possible composition adjustments.
- Day 6–7 — colour calibration, test print, final approval.
- Day 8–12 — production run (printing, stitching, inspection of every tenth sock).
- Day 13–14 — packing, dispatch to client warehouse or directly to the event.
Result
Brand merch that Angry Beards hands out at trade shows, sends to top customers, includes in influencer packages. The sock carries the brand in a lifestyle context — people wear them at home, travelling, at the gym. Brand seen every day, not just in advertising.
Quality: after 6 months of regular wear and washing, colours stay the same. No print peeling, no fading. For merch meant to represent the brand even after a year, it's the right material.
